Understand the result

How it works

The calculator first applies the standard deduction and the selected deductions to estimate taxable income. It then applies each regime's income tax slabs, adds 4% health and education cess, and compares the final amounts.

Worked example: For annual income of ₹15 lakh with ₹1.5 lakh in 80C deductions and ₹50,000 in other deductions, the calculator applies the selected age category and shows both regime estimates side by side.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the new and old tax regime?+

The new regime generally offers lower slab rates with fewer deductions, while the old regime allows more deductions and exemptions. Your better option depends on income and eligible deductions.

Which tax regime should I choose?+

Compare both estimates using your actual income and eligible deductions. The regime showing the lower estimated tax may save more, but confirm your choice with a qualified tax professional.

Can senior citizens use this calculator?+

Yes. Select the 60-80 or above 80 age category. Age-based basic exemption limits are applied to the old-regime estimate.

What is the 80C deduction limit?+

This calculator considers up to ₹1,50,000 under Section 80C for the old-regime estimate. Eligible investments and payments must meet the applicable rules.

Are these tax results exact?+

No. They are estimates for planning. Actual tax may also depend on rebates, surcharge, capital gains, exemptions, income type, and the latest official rules.
